Senior System Engineer UNIX/Linux, HPC and Storage (m/f/x)

Your tasks

Your objectives as a senior system engineer will be the design, planning, implementation and monitoring of the IT infrastructure, especially, but not limited to the server and storage systems. Additionally, you will be in charge of the backup and long-term archival system for Petabytes of research data.

Your qualifications

For this challenging position, you should ideally hold a master degree in computer science or a similar field or an equal qualification and you have several years of professional experience in a similar position in which you could demonstrate the required skills to master complex IT systems and to communicate equally well and fruitful with scientific and non-scientific staff. Expertise in the following topics is required: • Architecture of complex IT-Infrastructures • System administration of UNIX (Solaris) and Linux (Debian, Ubuntu) systems • Shell- and Python-Scripting, Ansible • HPC Cluster, LSF • Virtualization (KVM, ProxMox) • Large NAS-systems and robotic tape libraries • ZFS, GPFS/Spectrum Scale, SAM-FS/SAM-QFS, NFS • Database systems (MySQL/Mariadb, PostgreSQL) • TCP/IP, LDAP, DNS (BIND), RADIUS, VPN • Apache, NGINX • Writing of technical documentation and technical specifications Ideally, you already have gathered experience in project management and scientific computation. You should have a strong affinity for writing exhaustive technical documentation and you enjoy sharing your knowledge with your co-workers. Experience with Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, Zimbra, Exchange Server, the Django framework, VMware vSphere/ESXi and macOS would be a plus. Strong communication skills in written and spoken English are a must.

We offer a responsible and diversified position in an international reputable research facility. A multicultural team and sophisticated modern equipment await you at the institute. Compensation is based upon the wage agreement for public sector employment (“TVöD Bund”), the social security benefits equal those of the public sector. The position is initially limited to two years, it is aspired to make the position permanent.
